Thanks to a genetic quirk of fate, Mat has the ability to store the magic of another person within tattoo-like designs over his torso. The darker they are, the more magic he holds. Normally this ability only extends to the person that first activated him; after extraordinary developments, he has a separate set of white marks on his hands that can hold anyone's magic and be used by anyone else. He might be a little inhuman, his body adapting to being a battery for a demonic world-changing person after all, but for what he's changed in looks, he makes up in deadpan sarcasm and probably-insane ideas. Most likely to insert himself into a big brother role with an implacable attitude, Mat gravitates towards people who lack that little common sense fairy most other people have.
